Best Sleep Number Setting For Side Sleepers

74% of the population is side-sleeper, which makes them the majority. There is a good chance that you are in the side-sleeper category if you’re reading this.

Side sleepers need to make wise choices when choosing the best mattress. You may experience hip, back or neck pain. Everybody is different so you need to look for a mattress with medium to high firmness, good neck support and sufficient cushion to prevent pelvic rotation. __S.5__

It can be difficult to determine the right level of support, firmness and comfort that you require. Sleep Number beds may be an option. You can choose a Sleep Number setting to make your bed firmer, softer or more rigid with the touch of one button. Their 360 smart series mattresses will also include ResponsiveAir technology. This allows your bed’s temperature to be adjusted to your movements as you sleep.

What Sleep Number Setting Is Best For Me?

Your Sleep Number settings can range from 0-100. Each increment of five will indicate your number. The more firm your bed will feel, the higher the number. The Sleep Number of most people is between 30-60. A lower number than 30 or 60 will cause a bed to feel uncomfortable or too hard.

Unfortunately, its impossible to spit out a single number that is best for all side sleepers. However, if you know you like hard beds, theres a good chance your setting will fall in the 45-60 number range. Your number could be closer to 30, if you are more sensitive to softness.

Its also important to look beyond the number and towards the Sleep Number comfort layer. The majority of beds, except the c2, will have an additional layer of foam over the air chambers. This extra layer provides different levels of pressure relief and body contouring. The thickness of these foam layers ranges from two inches to seven. If you like squishy and soft beds that still provide solid and firm support, you could always try a combination of a higher sleep number setting with a thicker comfort layer. And if you know you like really hard beds, the c2 model might be the best bet, since there is no comfort foam layer and thus your bed will feel pretty firm, no matter your Sleep Number setting.

Which Sleep Number Model Would You Recommend?

The higher the model number, the more inches of comfort foam will be on top of your mattress.Side sleepers prefer to have lower Sleep Number models, so the Sleep Number 360 p5 and the c2 and 4 could be great options. The other options – p5, p6, i7, i8, and i10 – will have significantly thicker layers of foam above the mattress (starting at five inches), which might not give enough support to people who sleep on their side.

How Do I Find My Setting?

This is a step by step guide to finding your sleep number.

You can lie down.

Put your Sleep Number remote control or SleepIQ app on your bed. Place your back on the pillow. Make sure your pillows are propped as they would if you were actually sleeping.

Locate your setting.

You can use your remote control to:

    • Click the „Home“ button
    • Choose a Sleep Number
    • To explore different settings, use the up- and down arrows

If youre in the SleepIQ app:

    • Get your bed controls open
    • Select the Sleep Number tab
    • Tap Help Me Find My Sleep Number

(Each model has a slightly different remote, so these steps might be a little different. The app and remote are intuitive so navigation shouldn’t be a problem.

Pay attention to how the bed feels.

Sleep Number suggests that you bring your set up to 100 in order to feel what it feels like. Then, as the number goes down youll feel the bed get more and softer. Pay attention to how your body feels and reacts as the air chamber deflates.

Select a setting, and then stick to it for a few more days

When your body feels at the sweet spot – for side sleepers, the mattress should be filled to support your curves. Press Enter or Stop on the remote or app. The setting will automatically save so you dont need to adjust anything. From there, try it out for a few days. If youre finding that after a few days something still doesnt feel totally right, you can try adjusting your number 5 or 10 notches.

There is no one right number for every sleeping position. However, it’s helpful to know that you can adjust your Sleep Number settings to find the best fit for you. This, along with the many comfort layers, should help you find the firmness that supports your side-sleeping.
